Symbol of Strength

Native American Tribes have long shared their stories through powerful symbols — each representing strength, spirit, and resilience. Now, the Bayfield School District’s Native American Parent Advisory Committee (NAPAC) invites students to join in a friendly competition to design a logo that reflects those same values.

The NAPAC Logo Contest is part of the district’s celebration of Native American Heritage Month, and entries are due no later than December 1, 2025. Students may drop off their completed designs at their school office.

“This is a great opportunity to get involved, apply artistic expression through logo design, and ultimately be part of a profound representation of the Native American Tribes within our district,” said Danielle Coronado, President of the Native American Parent Advisory Committee.

Coronado, a member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, has two children enrolled in the Bayfield School District and says she is proud and honored to be part of such an important committee.

“Native American students make up over 14% of our district and represent more than 15 different tribes throughout the nation,” she said. “Our committee exists to support cultural and academic enrichment for Native American students, among several other missions. We’ve been growing each year, and it’s exciting to see that momentum continue.”

The contest invites students to create a design that honors tradition, celebrates diversity, and represents the Native American voices that help Bayfield schools grow strong. The winning logo will serve as a lasting symbol for NAPAC — one that reflects the unity, heritage, and resilience of the Native American Tribes that enrich the Bayfield School District.

“Every symbol tells a story,” Coronado said. “This is your chance to create one that respectfully represents the Native American voices within our district. We can’t wait to see the creativity that exists in our schools.”
