Superintendent Welcome Back Message

Bayfield School District families, July 29, 2024

“Raising the temperature of water by one extra degree means the difference between something that is simply very hot and something that generates enough force to power a machine-a beautiful, uncomplicated metaphor that ideally should feed our every endeavor-consistently pushing us to make the extra effort in every task we undertake.” –212 The Extra Degree. Sam Parker

As I thought about how to start this year off, the idea of one extra degree became apparent. As we focus on the future of Bayfield School District students and staff, now is our opportunity to add that extra effort. We live and work in a great community that has high expectations. We will continue to provide a first-class experience for each and every one of our students and staff members. While we continue to value the traditions of Bayfield in our schools, we gaze into the future and provide outcomes that maintain the greatness of the Bayfield School District.

Welcome Back!  I am looking forward to another great year and the opportunity to continue our work with our incredible students and outstanding staff. I can’t wait to see each and every one of you and hear about the great things that you did over the summer as well as celebrate the student successes that happened over break.

Our priorities will focus on our collective stakeholders. Starting with our leaders, it is essential that our actions are consistent and reliable and that expectations are clear and hardwired. Every building and department will meet academic and achievement goals. Students will be asked to meet expectations as outlined in the Wolverine Profile. Engaged students, active families, and dedicated staff will be committed to continuous improvement. We will provide a safe place for our students to learn and grow through connection to their education.

We will continue to hold ourselves and our students to high levels of accountability through maintaining a high standard of a positive climate and culture in our buildings. We will also evaluate data and open a dialogue that will allow us to continue offering a student-centered education. There will be a focus on recognizing and encouraging positive behavior and supporting students at every level.

Our efforts to focus on a positive culture and climate will continue to serve as the cornerstone of our organization and allow for a successful focus on instruction. We will do this through integrity and open, honest communication. By putting forth the extra degree, we can ensure that staff and students are successful and provide an environment in which they can thrive.

I am looking forward to seeing all of your students and ring in what will certainly be an amazing year for the Bayfield School District!  I hope that each of you have spent time with your friends and families over the summer and had the opportunity to rest and relax.  I am ready to work with an energized team of students and staff to continue our focus on goals and action plans for the 2024-2025 school year! I have included a copy of the 2024-25 Academic Calendar.

Remember: We Are Bayfield, We Are Wolverines!

See you soon,

Mr. Leon Hanhardt
