Bayfield School District Announces its Superintendent Selection

The Bayfield School Board selected from a strong slate of candidates and interviewed three finalists for their superintendent's position during the week of April 28th, and selected Dylan Connell, who is currently the Chief Academic Officer in Durango School District in Durango, Colorado.

Connell has worked in the Durango School District since 2013. He has held the positions of Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, principal, and assistant principal. Dylan had previously worked as a principal and assistant principal in Texas as well as several years of teaching at the middle and elementary school levels.

"On behalf of the board, we are honored to welcome our new Superintendent, Dr. Dylan Connell, to the Bayfield School District team. We feel his leadership, vision, collaborative nature, and dedication to excellence will inspire our schools, empower our educators, and enrich the lives of every student in our district. Together, we look forward to building a bright future for our entire learning community,”  Board President Rebecca Parnell said. Connell will assume the duties of Superintendent beginning July 1, 2025.

“I’m humbled and proud to be the finalist for Bayfield School District’s next Superintendent. I can’t wait to work with the staff, families, partners, and students to take care of our current people and community while preparing students for their big, bright futures. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence for every student. I am eager to listen and learn from our community as we work together to ensure academic success, post-secondary readiness, and lifelong skills for every learner,” Connell stated.
