Help Chart a Course for Your Schools

The Bayfield School District is participating in a pair of comprehensive long-range planning exercises across the district, and they are seeking community members who are interested in lending their talents and experience to two important committees that will be working with school officials over the next calendar year.

These committees will be asked to identify challenges and potential solutions that will help chart a future course of success for our schools and students. We encourage community members who believe they could provide valuable input to this process to go to BSD Planning Committee Search to fill out and submit a brief (3-5 minute) application.

Master Facilities Plan Committee

One or two parent/community members are needed to participate in reviewing the responses we receive from Master Planning Firms to the RFQ/P (Request for Qualifications/Proposals) we issued recently.

Committee members will participate in interviewing firms, score RFQ/Ps against the Colorado Department of Education’s rubric, and participate in two or three meetings with the Master Planning Firm as they complete their work between April and October 2024.

A background in reading, writing, and executing construction or legal contracts is seen as a benefit, but certainly not a requirement. As part of the project, we will also be discussing all of the historic buildings owned by the school district, so an understanding of the importance of some or all of those buildings to the Bayfield community would be a benefit to the committee in their work.

Strategic Plan Committee

Parents, business owners, community members, and employees of the district are all encouraged to apply for the Strategic Plan Committee. This will be a large team that meets multiple times between April and December of 2024 to develop a new Strategic Plan for the Bayfield School District.

A strategic plan provides overarching system-wide goals that should guide an organization for 3-5 years. A key purpose of the strategic plan is to help us align our Board and District goals, and the process will involve developing a shared vision for district success through planned engagement with internal (school personnel) and external (community members) stakeholders. We will be seeking multiple feedback loops that achieve consensus across the community.

Strategic Plan Committee members will serve as important parts of the stakeholder feedback loop as the plan gets edited and finalized, and will be vital important to us in developing ideas and values to add to the Strategic Plan.
