Hiring Tomorrow's Leaders Today

Throughout the month of February, Bayfield School District has been actively recruiting across the Rocky Mountain and southern plains regions in an effort to attract a highly qualified pool of candidates for principal positions being filled at Bayfield High School and Bayfield Intermediate School for the 2024-25 school year.

The district’s regional advertising campaign to attract new school leaders is set to conclude on Friday, February 23 when the application period closes, and district officials are asking community members to participate in the next stage of the selection process by providing input on what sort of qualities the hiring committee should be looking for in the next leaders of these two schools.

Those community members who wish to help can provide their input through a simple online form that asks 20 questions - most of which are designed to indicate what leadership qualities and characteristics are most suited to Bayfield and its schools. There are also opportunities for community members to identify goals and suggest changes for the respective schools, and respondents can even suggest questions that the hiring committee should ask when the finalists for the positions are interviewed.

The brief survey takes only a few minutes to complete, and community members who wish to participate may do so by clicking on the following links:

Bayfield School District families were also invited to attend listening sessions for the two positions and provide their own feedback on the search for new principals. The listening sessions were scheduled for February 20 and 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Bayfield Intermediate School and Bayfield High School libraries. The finalists for the Bayfield Intermediate School principal position will begin interviewing on March 5, and the finalists for the principal’s job at Bayfield High School will begin their interviews on March 8. District leaders hope to offer the positions prior to the March 12 meeting of the district’s board of trustees so that group can approve the hires that evening.

While the positions were advertised nationally, district officials specifically promoted Bayfield and its schools to prospective applicants across a 10 state region by inviting school leaders to live and work in “a world-class environment for outdoor enthusiasts with miles of trails for hiking and biking, wild rivers for rafting, breathtaking lakes for fishing and boating, and winter ski opportunities to complete 12-months of recreation.”

The district also emphasized its strong partnerships with Fort Lewis College, and the Pueblo Community College campus on district property where students and community members “share our zest for life-long learning.”
