Precautionary Measures Taken at Bayfield High School

To ensure the safety of students and staff members, Bayfield High School was under heightened security for a brief period on Thursday morning after a report was received of a possible “gunshot in the neighborhood,” but law enforcement cleared the area in under an hour and school activities were able to proceed without significant interruption.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Bayfield School District officials were made aware of a report of a possible gunshot being heard somewhere in the vicinity of Bayfield High School. School administrators instituted a “Hold in Place” at the school, which means that students and teachers stayed in their classrooms and learning activities continued. The Hold in Place remained in effect until the “all clear” was given by law enforcement at approximately 9:30 a.m.

There were no reports of gunshots on school property, and no threat was ever identified at the school. District officials were on hand to ensure the school was secured, and law enforcement responded immediately to the neighborhood to investigate the situation and determine the source and location of the noise that was reported.
